Many times, people confuse being optimistic with being delusional or naive. They’re so afraid of the disappointment that comes on the other side of losing or being “wrong,” that they dismiss optimism as something fluffy or silly. The truth is, optimism is extremely practical. How do you expect to accomplish any big goal if you’re already looking for all the reasons why it won’t work? Isn’t it much more productive to believe there’s a chance you can do it or that it will work out? Even if it doesn’t work out, doesn’t it make more sense to focus on the next steps you can take in the right direction? Either way you look at it, being optimistic helps you focus on the opportunities, instead of dwelling on the losses.

🐞 It's true, Gary Vaynerchuk , optimism is often misunderstood or even overlooked, seen as naive rather than a valuable asset. However, the truth is that optimism is extremely practical and can make the difference between success and failure. It's understandable to fear disappointment and failure, but allowing that fear to prevail is counterproductive. Focusing on all the reasons why a goal might not work out is like sabotaging our own success from the start. Even if things don't go as planned, optimism pushes us to look forward and concentrate on the next steps in the right direction rather than getting stuck in past losses. It encourages us to see challenges as growth opportunities and to find creative solutions to overcome them. Being optimistic is a fundamental skill that helps us maintain a proactive and success-oriented mindset. Instead of being overwhelmed by difficulties, it encourages us to focus on the opportunities that lie ahead. So, I challenge you and everyone reading this comment to adopt an optimistic attitude in the face of the challenges you face. You'll see it make a difference in your journey toward success!

Gary, Optimism can be a very slippery slope if not tempered/reigned-in by some realism/objectivity. It's extremely important to factor-in optimistic metrics when setting goals, however, you need to have an infrastructure already in place on effectively measuring progress against those optimistic goals, and, finally, the objectivity with an added sense of realism, along with courage to change/amend those goals, otherwise, you could become delusional, which can take down an organization by burning through capital & resources that could be better used effectively in some other venture. Regards, G.Q.

It's about problem solving too. When there is something to be figured out, changed or accomplished --- it's about looking exploring for ways , for solutions....instead of deciding up-front there is no solution. How would you know without trying ?

Why would you want the best for yourself...and then focus on the Negative? Would those around Us benefit from Us having a Positive mindset? Would those around us benefit from our more Upbeat attitude? What good are we doing ourself...by having a Negative attitude? some People want to focus on the Bad most times-many are hard wired from a family background(or other factors) to "look for the negative"(even when something positive happens lol)-this is a hard habit to break-Positivity is sometimes hard...much of what happens in Life...is Bad-We need to choose the mindset we want to have in different circumstances-flip the switch to a better outlook-Life appears so much better

I flip the script on negativity. I don't: -Dwell on failures -Overanalyze setbacks -Predict the worst -Ignore potential Instead: -Celebrate small wins -Learn from every result -Plan for success -Value every opportunity

what is weird, Gazza, is a post about 'optimism' built on a negative premise. firstly, you start by assuming that people are confused. is this optimistic? answer, no it isn't. then, according to you, people are afraid of losing or being wrong. (another pessimistic assumption.) you're the one 'dwelling on the loses.' perhaps a better way to illustrate optimism is to actually BE optimistic. see people as less confused and unafraid. yes? & be less dichotomous, for god's sake. you don't have play the positive against the negative all the time. -- is this guy even qualified?? the positive can live on its own. if we took all the negative out of your blurb ... would you even have a blurb?

I have to disagree with your opinion..🙃for me it only works the other way around, the more disappointed, frustrated I am about a situation etc. it keeps me fighting and I won‘t let go until I have succeeded! You need losses to gain more strength and confidence, optimism itself might be good but it will not push you in the right direction! My brain works better the more difficult the subject is, it is kind of a kick for me…and believe it or not, with this (my) attitude helped me being succrssful…the optimism comes afterwards! Cheers to everyone!

Not taking action because of fear of losing or being wrong is just choosing to fail in advance because the end result is the same: you don't have the thing. Go with the thought that things are always working out and you'll find that they are.

Optimism in the workplace fosters a culture where challenges are viewed as opportunities, enhancing problem-solving and innovation. For example, as a digital transformation leader, embracing optimism can help you see beyond immediate obstacles in marketing projects, focusing instead on potential innovative solutions that leverage your skills in social media marketing and competitive analysis.
